After-school activities offer opportunities for kids to learn new skills, explore different areas of talent, deepen existing expertise, make friends, and form relationships with supportive adults. Participation in structured after-school activities has also been linked to a number of positive outcomes.
There are social, physical and psychological advantages for children who participate in after-school activities. Rather than allowing kids to spend all of their leisure time parked in front of the television or playing video games, parents who encourage children to participate in activities outside of the home are aiding in their development.
It’s no surprise that after-school programs can do much more than keep your children occupied during the afternoon. Children develop time-management skills, build self-esteem, and practice goal-setting. While it may be tough to squeeze in after-school activities for your children, the benefits are well worth the extra effort.
